Missions Update: November
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on the hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13–14)
Do you remember the first time you heard the gospel? I do. I sat in a college cafeteria across from a Campus Crusade for Christ Missionary. For the first time, I listened to a story of creation, separation, redemption, and restoration. Even though I wouldn’t receive the gospel in my heart till a year later, the story I heard was unforgettable. My heart wasn’t ready, but my ears tingled at words that offered something different—saved by grace alone? It didn’t seem real. I think about the word in the book of John, how Nicodemus must have felt when he approached Jesus by night in search of truth, and what he must have thought hearing John 3:16 for the first time as a Jewish ruler and pharisee. Everything must have changed because the gospel holds this power. It’s more than just a story. It’s more than just a sequence of the correct words. It is TRUTH: the only truth that offers salvation, and as I speak, there are STILL people waiting to hear that truth, for instance, the community of Leven.
Leven, Scotland, is a seaside town with a community currently unreached by the gospel. Most recently, our church partners Elijah and Jessie Brooks have reached 100% in support. PRAISE GOD! Having met their support goal, their plans to co-plant a church in Leven can progress, but they still need to be covered in prayer. Jessie is preparing to move while pregnant, so finding a midwife in Leven is a priority. The Brooks will need to establish housing and the logistics of travel. Finally, they are requesting prayer for the core team in Leven as they work side by side with one another in sharing the gospel story.
